Adult Pet Wellness

Even if your pet seems healthy, the fact is that dogs and cats instinctually tend to hide symptoms of illness and injury, and some subtle signals are easy to miss. There are also some life-threatening conditions that have no symptoms at all until they are very advanced. This is why we highly recommend annual exams and health screenings for all adult pets.

At a wellness exam, our veterinarian will assess your pet’s physical health from nose to tail and may recommend a diagnostic workup, which can include blood, fecal, and urine screenings.

One important aspect of this exam will be dental check-up. Most pets over the age of three have some evidence of periodontal (dental) disease and left untreated, it can eventually cause serious and painful health problems for your pet. We recommend that regular anesthetic dental cleanings (scaling) be done to make sure your pet’s teeth stay healthy and can also show you how to do home brushing if your pet is cooperative.

This is exam is also a great time to talk to the veterinarian about any behavior changes or problems you may have noticed. Often behavioral changes can indicate a health issue. If the behavior doesn’t stem from a physical problem, our veterinarian can advise you on how to best address the problem.
